While the great Mexican actor Damián Alcázar assured that he would return to Panama to do a movie, the closing press conference of the fifth edition of the International Film Festival of Panama served to underline the benefits of the spaces of exchange between producers and the rest of the cinematic industry at this annual festivity.

In IFF Panama 2014, producer Augusto Matte was present at the projection of To Kill a Man along with its director Alejandro Fernández Almendras. After the screening, and within the frame of the exchange that the festival offers, Matte and Fernández agreed to collaborate on three projects in the near future. Two years later, the first one of such was successfully presented on IFF Panama’s screens: Much Ado About Nothing

"In addition to providing an excellent showcase for its audience, the Festival also seeks to support the growth of national, regional and Latin American cinema in general, by facilitating meetings between members of the industry that could result in new opportunities for production and distribution", said Diana Sánchez, artistic director of IFF Panama.

Stephan Proaño, director of the Panama Film Commission, expressed similar satisfaction in regard to this fact. "It is a privilege that we can see cinema of this category in Panama, of this great quality, and is a joy that this year we have seven Panamanian productions, one of which has already received awards [Sultán / Primera Mirada]. This has always been our goal and I think that it’s now a reality because of the support of all the parties involved." commented Proaño.

The wide array of locations and tax incentives that Panama has to offer were highlighted at the closing press conference. Likewise, the great Mexican actor, who came to this year’s edition on behalf of two films, Magallanes and The Thin Yellow Line, expressed his desire to film in this country. "As a Latin American actor, I look forward to working here soon. I'll be here making a movie at some point."
